Khaki Ball

Every year after the Navy makes new Chief Petty Officers we all get together to celebrate... thus, the Khaki Ball!

We decided to splurge and get a room at the hotel the ball was being held at and I was so stoked- this year was to be the Wyndham Grand- the spiral building in the city!

Before we left home I curled and pinned my hair up so I wouldn't have to do anything but take it down and fix it once we got there (and thank goodness I did because check in was a shit show). Totally channeled Lucille Ball here and I kind of love it!

We arrived at the hotel an hour past check in time and were told our room wasn't ready yet. Fine. We settled in to the lobby and waited. They had a bakery counter and Stella scoped out some macrons for herself and all was right in her world....meanwhile... I had to get ready, Christopher needed a shower and to get ready, and he had to go set up some stuff for the khaki ball so we were impatiently awaiting our room key.

Finally after waiting for an hour we made it to our room.

There was a minor panic over how Christopher was going to shower in the glass shower, but luckily there were blinds that came down!

I took my curls down out of their cute pins to find these awesome curls!

We took Stella to the childcare area and headed up to the ball! One of the chiefs' kids, Gideon is the cutest thing ever- he loves to dress up in uniforms and they had a khaki uniform made for him out here and he debuted it at the ball! Everyone on base calls him Master Chief when they see him so his dad was super awesome and got him MC anchors to wear. He was a hit! All the chiefs that work with his Dad had to get a picture with him!

They had a photo booth area set up with props and stuff so we had a lot of fun with that....

Attempting to get a decent picture with him is occasionally challenging...

I finally got a halfway decent picture...

The next morning we did manage to get a late check out so we had breakfast and then headed to the pool. Some of our friends also scored a late check out and were at the pool as well. We hung out for the morning and early afternoon and it turned out to be a really nice day weather wise!

While it was a clear day weather-wise, I (for the first time in a looooooong time) forgot sunscreen and I could just feel my skin frying in the sun. I actually sat with a towel around my shoulders for most of the morning, but it didn't matter. I typically don't get burned in Bahrain because the pollution in the air is so bad the UV rays are blocked (I wish I was joking...). Apparently we were crystal clear that day because Christopher and I got so sunburnt! We were miserable! Stella won the skin lottery and never burns so at least she was all good.
