On 2 May we headed to the airport to pick up Noni and Duke for a visit!
We gave them a day to rest and relax and then on Saturday we headed to Brunch at Cantina Kahlo at the Ritz for their last brunch of the season!
Lindsey and Donna and their husbands invited us along and I said absolutely! Its one of my favorite brunches on the island and I wasn't tracking it was their last so I was super happy they asked us to come!
The whole group!
Mom had a little post brunch Uber nap.
The morning of 6 May I woke up to a text message from the King himself and Ramadan had begun
During Ramadan there is no eating or drinking out in public as the Muslims are fasting the entire month. So everything is quiet and empty and all the restaurants are closed. Its so weird to go to the mall and see no one there! We headed to the movies to see "Captain Marvel" since Mom hadn't seen it yet and she needed to see it before we took the to see "End Game"! We had a private showing... it was awesome!
My dad is obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with dates. So, on a grocery store run I found fresh dates and got some. He doesn't love the fresh ones but Mom and I do! They have a totally different flavor and texture than dried dates and are kind of astringent, but so good!
We took them to Lumee after Iftar last night and we had Kunafa- its a middle eastern dessert of cheese and cream inside of pastry with rose syrup drizzled over it. Its odd but so delicious! I've got to work on a way to make it gluten free so Stella and Mom can try it!
After dinner we went to the souk and Dad got measured and picked out fabric for a couple of new suits. Then we went shopping for souvenirs and ended up finding some gorgeous Afghani kilims!
I don't think we're going to go anywhere this trip, but we might, who knows. Left on the agenda is the Bahrain Museum, Tree of Life, and an Iftar or two (Iftars are the big dinner to break the fast of the day and a big deal- kind of like a night time brunch).
